What’s on right now

There is a crazy mix of Kdramas on right now and there are soooo many. Here are my current favourites.

Trauma Code: Heroes on Call

Netflix

This one is my favourite. Ju Ji Hoon plays a crazy trauma surgeon who can do everything. Doesn’t matter that all of those specialties would take about 20 years PYG training, he can do them all!

This show is a perfect mix of comedy, action, and revenge. There isn’t any romance but let’s be real, we need a break from the romance once in a while. There were so many romances in the kdrama-verse last month. Let’s get our other senses in action.

Unmasked

Disney Plus

I have a total girl crush on Kim Hye Soo. She is so gorgeous and a bad ass. She plays a journalist who reports things that other news shows won’t. She’s a got a team of like minded people weirdos. They are on the brink of losing their show and their jobs.

So far this show has been exciting and love watching this. It’s dark but not too dark like Gangnam B-side or Worst Evil. It has enough comedic breaks and perfect characters.

Iron Family

Viki

I think has been crowned the new queen of my weekend, family, makjang KDramas. I think a lot of KDrama fans look down on these shows but I freaking love them. Lee Da Rim (Geum Sae Rok), needs a surgery to fix her eyesight but it costs a gazillion dollars. Her mom and grandparents find a bag of money buried in the mountains. They take this money to pay for her surgery and keep the remaining. They soon find out hiding this money is not easy.

Lee Da Rim is in love with Seo Kang Joo (Kim Jung Hyun) and they are absolutely adorable. I never really liked Geum Sae Rok but she killed this role. Kim Jung Hyun is always a charmer and I’m so glad he’s making his way back into the industry.

This is a 50 episode commitment but totally worth every episode.

When the Stars Gossip

Netflix

I’m just going to say it…. I’m not an Lee Min Ho fan. I really believe that his female co-stars carry him. This time they had to pair him with another KDrama romcom legend, Gong Hyo Jin. But I have to say, I love seeing him play a dummy. I also love that he was raised by three moms who are the Korean equivalent to a bar maid. Generally frowned upon in Korean society. He broke out of the rich ass hole role and it’s working for him.

He gets sent into space by his rich, soon to be father in law to do him a huge favour. The Korean space program has a “tourist” program so anyone who is physically fit, with enough money, can go into space with the astronauts. Of course, the captain Gong Hyo Jin is annoyed.

This show has some funny moments but so far this one is not my favourite out of all of the shows that are on right now. I don’t like the cheating partners. It all seems added in to appeal to US viewers. Not saying Koreans don’t cheat, we just to don’t put it on display and normalize it like North Americans do. The story is mediocre at best.

Let’s see how how this one goes…

Motel California

Viki

A sweet childhood bestie turned lover story. Ji Kang Yi (Lee Se Young) hates that she grew up in a small town and in a motel. Her mother was a foreigner which makes her mixed and this has made the town turn against her from a young age. She always had her best friend, Cheon Yeon Soo (Na In Woo) to make her feel better.

I liked this show at first but every episode I’m hating Kang Yi more. It feels like she’s just keeping him on her hook but refuses to completely commit to him. I absolutely love Lee Se Young as an actor. She is super charismatic and funny. Na In Woo is also adorable so I’m hoping this one gets better.

Love Scout

Viki

Yes! Love this. Don’t want to say more. If you need a solid romance, just watch it and thank me later.

Check In Hanyang

Viki

I haven’t watched a saguk in a minute. So far the story line of this show is so good. Hong Jae On is disguised as Hong Deok Soo (Kim Ji Eun) and enrolls in a school meant for all male students to learn hotel management. This is all part of her revenge plot for the person who killed her father.

There are so many twists and turns and keeps me interested. The show starts a bit slow but worth sticking to. My only complaint, Bae In Hyuk is so good looking but I can’t handle the way he speaks. Only other Korean speakers will understand what I mean.
