My Review
The title of the show “Tell Me that You Love Me” is a literal translation from Korean. The point of this show is expressing love in different ways other than saying the words.
This is one of the most beautiful love stories I’ve watched in a long time. It’s one of those slow burning kdramas that keeps you hooked into the characters and gives those warm fuzzy feelings.

Jin Woo grew up in an orphanage and lost his hearing as a child from scarlet fever. When he was growing up he didn’t have access to special schools for deaf children and was forced to read lips. He always appeared thoughtful and reserved. He tries his best to make sure he doesn’t cause a nuissance for anyone. He has one best friend who has been with him his entire life, Ki Hyun.
Mo Eun is also a thoughtful person who is breaking into acting. She is a part of a theatre group and takes minor TV roles. She took a huge risk to become an actress and still questions if she has what it takes to make it as an actress.
This Kdrama is one of the reasons why I love Jung Woo Sung so much. They needed to cast someone who can convey deep emotions without using their voice. He was basically just acting with his eyes. He could use his voice to show emotion and it was so crazy. There are very few actors who can pull this off. He has not done a drama in a long time and it was nice to see him in a romantic role and not his usual action movies. The last time I saw him a melodrama was Padam Padam. All of his other roles in the 90s he always played a tortured soul with a hot temper. This was sexy in the 90s, now we just call it toxic masculinity.

I love that they picked Shin Hyun Bin as the female lead. She was perfect as Mo Eun. Someone who is going into an unfamiliar field and confidence wavers frequently but still perserveres. She always puts a lot of thought into her words before speaking. She wanted to learn sign language to communicate with Jin Woo without using cell phones. Shin Hyun Bin once said in an interview that she was not confident that she had what it takes to become an actress.
Their relationship was no different than any other adult relationship. Jin Woo was a bit older and came in with baggage that he wasn’t aware of and did not want to be a burden on Mo Eun. Mo Eun persued him and confessed her feelings first. The beginning was sweet and exciting.
At a certain point Mo Eun realizes there are so many things she can’t do with Jin Woo and it weighs on her emotionally. When we meet a new a partner, it’s often rare to meet someone who is 100% fully matched. There’s always some friction. She misses parts of her old self. It’s a common thing that happens with women in relationships and Mo Eun was going to suffer in silence but that was the last thing Jin Woo wanted for her.

We see the different ways everyone in this show express love for each other. Mo Eun’s best friend, Ji Yoo (Park Jin Joo), her friend Yo Han, Mo Eun’s parents, Jin Woo’s ex-girlfriend, and everyone else. The expression of love is different for everyone. Saying the word is not always the best way to express love.
I’ve said too much. This is one of those low key under the radar dramas that should be enjoyed by all romance lovers. Go through the all of the stages of the a relationship with Mo Eun and Jin Woo.
