Dongsaeng of the Week – Jung So Min

Jung So Min has a subtle charm about her that isn’t completely obvious at first site but she grows you very quickly. Despite hating her most recent role in Monthly Home Magazine, I still love seeing her on TV. I blame bad writing for this crappy character in that particular Kdrama.

My favourite character played by her was Jung Ddol Mi in D Day. A quick witted, loud, hot tempered orthopedic residency surgeon from Busan. Being from Jin Joo city, Jun So Min can easily turn on the Gyeongsangdo satori and mannerisms with ease.

The first show I saw her in was Because This is My First Life as Ji Ho. The character she portrayed appeared to be a door mat because she didn’t say much but when she spoke, she always had something important to day.

She’s able to convey the emotions of her characters without doing or saying much. Kind of like someone who is trying to hide how they’re feeling but always seem to wear their heart on their sleeve. This is why she was perfect for the role of Yoo Jin Kang in The Smile Has Left Your Eyes. Her character was quiet and stoic. She had amazing chemistry with Seo In Guk. The way she quietly conveys painful feelings is unmatched.

She had a supporting role in the movie Twenty as So Min and she was hilarious in it. Her character was very different from what I was used to seeing her in.

She played a mousey former Judo champion in My Father is Strange. This is a family drama and she was the second daughter in a family of four. She played a shy woman who was looking for her place in the world. She was small and quiet but beat up her sister’s boyfriends when needed.

Much like her acting style, Jung So Min has a subtle and warm beauty about her. Someone who feels comforting and kind. She is easy on the eyes and tends to stay away from the overly dramatic acting style and it works well for her.

I haven’t watched all of her shows an movies but I am slowly making my way through the list. She has been acting for over 10 years and had been in many kdramas and movies as leads, supporting, and cameos during that time. I look forward to what else she has in store for us kdrama lovers.
