Plot
Seo Mok Ha has dreams of becoming a singer like her favourite singer, Yoon Ran Joo. In an attempt to escape her abusive father, she is stranded on a deserted island for 15 years.
That is all I want to tell you because this must be enjoyed. It’s definitely in my top 3 for 2023.

My Review
This show is full of emotions from the beginning all the way to the end. It’s so crazy how Park Eun Bin has the ability to make you feel things deep in your gut that you didn’t know existed. I had no idea that she could sing like that. I’m not sure how much of it was her actual voice but from what I looked up, it was her actually singing. Is there anything she can’t do?

Kdramas have been trending towards a more female centric direction. This show was no different. I love that they did not focus on her relationship with her childhood friend who helped her escape her abusive father and focused on her healing and becoming a singer. Ki Ho always tells her, come to me when you feel like you can’t handle it anymore. He lets go of her when she needs it and welcomes her back when she needs him. His character was made soley to serve her. Ki Ho treated Mok Ha like family and being together was a given. There was no push and pull or games. The focus was completely on her and their romance was just a bonus.

Both Mok Ha and Ki Ho came from abusive homes and had complicated feelings about their fathers. Both were sad when they said good bye for the final time. The person they feared the most soon became the person they pitied the most. The show addresses the complex nature of the relationship with family members. You never fully hate them but also don’t always love them every day.
Ki Ho’s step father adopted him and his brother to help his mother escape abuse. You can see the difference between his biological dad and his step father. His biological dad treated him like a possession and in the end he had to no one. Ki Ho’s step dad did everything in his power to protect his children. Blood is not always thicker than water and it is okay to let go of family members who harm you.

Yoon Ran Joo (Kim Hyo Jin) was our perfect washed up Kpop star. Still gorgeous and loved but had a complex about her self worth. Her deal with her manager was never fufilled because he hid her record sales from her. She never understood her self worth until she met Mok Ha. Her first and most loyal fan.
I loved everything about this show. The story, the characters, the singing, all of it. This is probably one of my favourites of 2023 and 2023 was a good kdrama year. It’s definitely a must watch.
