I am very impressed with the number of quality KDramas that have become accessible in North America. Disney, we don’t need your slow ass. There’s plenty to watch before the Disney releases reach us!
Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938
Amazon Prime, Saturday and Sunday
Starring: Lee Dong Wook, Kim Beom, Hwang Hee, Kim So Yeon, Kim Yong Ji
We’ve waited 3 years for this sequel and it looks like Amazon Prime has scooped up the rights for this one. They have always had a few Korean movies and a couple older KDramas but I guess now they are competing for more. Back to the first impression. Totally entertaining and fun. It has that Western cowboy twist with the music and camera shooting style. The bromance chemistry between Kim Beom and Lee Dong Wook winning me over. How can I forget about Hwang Hee? Such a hottie and has a few shirtless scenes. Thank you! Kim So Yeon who plays Ryu Hong Ju is a welcomed addition to this show. She definitely adds to the layer of crazy antics.
Love the action scenes and the well timed comedy. The chemistry between the cast is amazing. Definitely making my Prime subscription worth it!
Doctor Cha
Netflix, Saturday and Sunday
Starring: Um Jung Hwa, Kim Byung Chul, Myung Se Bin, Min Wook Hyuk
Um Jung Hwa! Our 90s kpop star turned actor. I love that this show is about a middle aged woman finding yourself. It won’t take long for you to fall in love with Dr. Cha and loathe her husband. This show is so relatable for women of all ages. It is hilarious and touching at the same time. We are all rooting for you Dr. Cha so you can make your music video with BoA and Hyori!
Joseon Attorney
Viki, Friday and Saturday
Starring: Woo Do Hwan, Bona, Cha Hak Yeon
I can not be the only one who was counting down to Woo Do Hwan’s discharge from military duty. His post military bod? You’re going to have to see for yourself. This show will take you on an emotional roller coaster like all good saguks will. It has everything; romance, action, drama, comedy, and politics. Definitely watch this one. You will not be disappointed.
Good Bad Mother
Netflix, Wednesday and Thursday
Starring: Lee Do Hyun, Ra Mi Ran, Ahn Eun Jin
This is another emotional roller coaster and a beautiful story of redemption for a mom and son. As children of Korean immigrants, a lot of us grew up with harsh parents and we finally get to see the intentions behind such harshness. I love seeing a good redemption story. This show will hit you deep in the feels. I’m praying this show ends with a lot of healing. I don’t need to mention how talented the three actors are. All three have proven themselves in every role and this show is no different. Bust out the tissues there will not be a dry eye in the house.
Black Knight
Netflix, all episodes released May 12, 2023
Starring: Kim Woo Bin, Eesom, Song Seung Heon
This show was really hard for me to finish. It’s only 6 episodes and something I could usually finish on a school night but it was so depressing I had to break it up. Out of respect for Kim Woo Bin and Eesom, I finished it. It’s a dystopian sci-fi story which makes the general mood very dark. It was still very well done and a fantastic story just not my personal type of show. I don’t like feeling sad and scared. The dustiness of it felt real and something that could actually happen in real life.
My Perfect Stranger
Viki, Monday and Tuesday
Starring: Jin Ki Joo, Kim Dong Wook
This is a time travel romantic drama with a chance at redemption between a mother and daughter. There’s a special charm about Jin Ki Joo and she is such an underrated actress. She again has proven herself to be beautifully moving as an actor. I’ve watched 4 episodes so far and I’m hooked. I need to see what happens and I’m hoping for a happy ending. The way this kdrama started, it can go either way.
