How to explain what this show is about? This show was somehow intensely sad and yet at the same time nothing really happened with the plot. The best plot summary I could find was from My Drama List:

“Lost” tells the story of ordinary people walking towards the light who suddenly realize that ‘nothing has happened’ in the middle of the downhill road of life. It depicts the most ordinary daily life standing on the edge of darkness rather than light, a life where one cannot easily choose.

Bu Jeong (Jeon Do Yeon) is a disgraced ghost writer who lives with her husband and is clinically depressed. I didn’t like her for the first few episodes mainly because she just seemed selfish. The root of her unhappiness is seen through the episodes. She’s in a loveless marriage and her husband seems to stay with her out of guilt.

Kang Jae (Ryu Joon Yeol) is a man in his late 20s without clear direction in his career and will do anything for money. He lives on his own and his father passed away when he was young.

Both characters have such different lives but their misery is felt the same. Their paths cross and they feel an intense soul connection to each other. They come from different worlds but have the same intense feeling of sadness.

Before we get into things, can we please talk about Kang Jae’s leuk for a second?

It was a nerdy street chic and I was feeling it hard. I never thought that Hyeri’s boyfriend, Jung Hwan from Reply 1988 could be hot but he proved me wrong. This man was just oozing with sexiness during the entire show. Now I know why the kids call it a drip. He was dripping with sexy. The stylist for this show needs a raise. See photos below:

My Review

Needless to say, this show is an artistic masterpiece. This is an emotionally heavy show and really reminds me of how I felt when I watched My Mister. The difference with My Mister is there really isn’t a clear definitive factor that’s causing the misery of the characters which makes their depression so relatable. It’s just the hard parts of living and getting through each day and trying to accomplish something.

For starters, the writing. This is not your typical love story kdrama with a predictable pattern. There really isn’t a “main” plot, it’s more of a combination of many sub-plots and the characters keep you on the hook. Each of the characters stories have significance to the story. I absolutely loved the revenge Bu Jeong has on her former boss at the end. It was tasteful and she became my hero.

The cinematography and music were beautiful and on point. Each scene had this blue haziness and matched the feeling of all of the characters. The music was perfectly cued.

The best part was the acting. Honestly, this show would not have worked without these actors. Jeon Do Yeon and Ryu Joon Yeol are both award winning actors for their skill. They hardly say anything and their connection is felt more from their gaze at each other. It’s both a feeling of pain and mutual understanding of each other. Such an unlikely love connection but the attraction is felt.

I’m having a really hard time putting into words how amazing this show is. I don’t know how to sell it to you and hope that it becomes readily available in North America because everyone should watch and feel this show.
