October/November KDrama Rotation

After Extraordinary Attorney Woo ended, I went to a bit of Kdrama drought and hated everything I was watching. I got sucked into a few family dramas just to pass the time. During my trip to Korea things started to pick up in the kdrama world and I was forced to watch them without subtitles. These are the shows on my current rotation.

Gaus Electronics

You can catch this show on Viki and its about 10 episodes deep with only 2 more episodes left.

The show is a satire about a bunch of office coworkers who work for Gaus Electronics. This show is absolutely hilarious. Lee Sang Shik (Kwak Dong Young) is an eager to please office worker and wants to do everything by the book. Cha Na Rae (Go Sung Hee) is a grumpy and slightly abusive. Then you have Baek Ma Tan (Bae Hyun Sun), a rich kid who is pretending to be an average guy and his love interest Gang Mi (Kang Min Ah), a bad ass who lives in a rough neighbourhood and a little rough around the edges herself.

My opinion, this is the funniest kdrama I have watched in a long time. Definitely worthwhile if you need a good laugh with cute characters.

Love In Contract

Need a good ooygooy romance? The romcom queen, Park Min Young will bring it. She never disappoints us with bringing the chemistry with any male lead (except Song Kang, don’t hate me!) and this show is no different. Choi Sang Eun (Park Min Young) is a contract wife for men who need a wife for various reasons. She falls for two of her clients and needs to make a choice. I was so torn when I was watching this and to be honest I would have been good with either men. Ji Ho (Ko Kyung Pyo) an uptight judge that she has dinner with on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays for the last 5 years. Kang Hae Jin (Kim Jae Young) is a celebrity who needs to stabilize his image and hire Sang Eun to be his fake fiance. Both men are adorable in their own way.

This show is adorable and worth watching. You can find this gem on Viki.

Under The Queen’s Umbrella

As a Kim Hye Soo fan girl, this is a must watch. Kim Hye Soo plays the queen who is trying to manage her sons to keep their position and lives in the palace. She is up against her evil mother in law and several of the concubines. Having five sons doesn’t seem to secure their position in the court.

This show first aired on Netflix on October 15th and is picking up the pace quickly. I love how they handled the situation with her son who wants to dress in drag. It made me cry.

Love is for Suckers

Choi Si Won always aims to entertain. He plays a surgeon, Park Jae Hoon, who quit his job at a big hospital and is now performing outpatient procedures for a plastic surgery office. He has a platonic, yet not so platonic, best friend Goo Yeo Reum (Lee Da Hee) who is a producer for a variety show.

This show is not bad and about 8 episodes have been released so far. I’m kind of waiting for it to pick up. All of the characters are likeable and I’ll likely finish it.

Three Bold Siblings

This is one of those 50 episode long family kdramas. This show really hit home with me. I felt the pain of being the eldest in a Korean family and being expected to sacrifice everything to your younger siblings.

As the title is self explanatory, it’s about a family of three siblings and their lives. It’s a typical family drama with an unrealistically loving Korean father, crazy mother in law, and easily solvable problems that somehow get out of hand. I don’t know about you but I personally love these family kdramas. It’s also refreshing to see Lim Joo Hwan play a kind loveable character instead of a psychoatic asshole.

So far this show has been entertaining and frustrating at the same time and I want to be a part of the 50 episode journey.

Mental Coach Jengal

I love a good inspiring sports show. This kdrama really captures the pain and hope of elite athletes and touches on the real and very scary issues that athletes at this level go through. If you want to compare it to everyone’s favourite sports Kdrama, Weight Lifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, this show is much darker.

Jengal Gil (Jung Woo) is a Mental Coach and a former taekwondo athlete who cheated out of a spot on the national team. His friend asked him to help his younger sister Cha Ga Eul (Lee Yoo Mi) who is a champion speed skater who has a bad case of the yips.

This show wrapped up on November 2nd and I enjoyed most of it except the end.
